QZAP - The Queer Zine Archive Project

A Queer Zine Double Date!!!

AddThis Social Bookmark Button
postawebPlease join QZAP, the Queer Zine Archive Project for an evening of queer zine art and film.  On Friday, July 2nd, we will be presenting a gallery show of selected blow-ups from queer zines.  From the sacred to the profane and the serious to the silly, these pieces will rock your world.  Come see the work of writers, artists, and self-publishers as they step out of the pages and onto the walls.

As part of the evening's events, NYC-based artist/activist Kate Huh will be presenting "Paper to Light - Queer Zinesters Making Movies."  This program of shorts will show the work of folks who have transitioned from print to film and back again.

Kate has exhibited her visual art and films throughout the United States and Europe since 1982. She is the creator of the zine REBEL FUX! (self published 1996-2001).
Her film titles include: "REBEL FUX! The Movie" 2000, "Market This" (produced in collaboration with the Paper Tiger TV collective) 2001, "Punk Ass Kid" 2003,"Nixmary- A Horror Story" 2006,"War Dreams" 2007 and “Family Living” 2009.  In addition, she was the Co-Director of MIX NYC (2006-2009), the non-profit queer arts organization that annually presents The New York Queer Experimental Film Festival.  She has been curating screenings of queer films internationally since 2001.

The gallery show is free, and there is a $4 suggested donation for the screening, but nobody will be turned away for lack of funds.

Hey QZAP Fans!

We're getting ready for Summer, and we've got lots going on.  Zine fests, an art show, a new edition of QZAP:meta are just some of the things that we will be working on over the next month or two.

Unfortunately, we need a little scratch to make some of these happen... SO, we've decided to sell the last of our "Zinesters Do It On The Photocopier" t-shirts for $10 USD!  That includes shipping to the US and Canada!  These shirts were silkscreened by us two summers ago, and are a badass as it gets.

Here's what we've got left:

  • Youth Large - (1) Sky Blue w/Orange ink
  • Adult Medium - (1) Sky Blue w/Orange ink, (1) Olive Green w/Salmon ink, (1) Charcoal Gray w/Rust ink
  • Adult Large - (2) Charcoal Gray w/Rust ink, (1) Olive Green w/Blue ink
  • Adult X Large - (1) Charcoal Gray w/Salmon ink, (1) Sky Blue w/Orange ink, (1) Olive Green w/Blue ink

Call for Submissions: QZAP:meta #4

AddThis Social Bookmark Button
my2kensIt's that time once again...  We're gearing up for QZAP:meta #4.  This is a special issue because (if all goes according to plan and those horrible Smurfs don't ruin it) this issue will come out in time for the next Queer Zine Art Show that we're working on for July.

So here's the deal: the Queer Zine Archive Project is seeking submission for QZAP:Meta, a queer zine about queer zines.  We are seeking articles and artwork depicting and discussing specifically queer zines. Kinda self explanitory, hmm?

Articles should be between 500-1000 words.  They can be on any of the following themes:

  • Queer zines and community
  • Collecting queer zines
  • Queer zine history
  • Your relation to queer zines
  • Why you put out your zine
  • The first queer zine you read or were influenced by
  • The future of queer zines and queer zine community

Artwork and images (photos, illustrations, etc.) should be print-ready at 300 dpi or higher.  Black and white preferred.  Artwork should be submitted as either TIFF or PDF files.

Please email your submissions to qzap [at] qzap.org by June 15th, 2010.
