Please join QZAP, the Queer Zine Archive Project for an evening of queer zine art and film. On Friday, July 2nd, we will be presenting a gallery show of selected blow-ups from queer zines. From the sacred to the profane and the serious to the silly, these pieces will rock your world. Come see the work of writers, artists, and self-publishers as they step out of the pages and onto the walls. As part of the evening's events, NYC-based artist/activist Kate Huh will be presenting "Paper to Light - Queer Zinesters Making Movies." This program of shorts will show the work of folks who have transitioned from print to film and back again.
Kate has exhibited her visual art and films throughout the United States and Europe since 1982. She is the creator of the zine REBEL FUX! (self published 1996-2001).
Her film titles include: "REBEL FUX! The Movie" 2000, "Market This" (produced in collaboration with the Paper Tiger TV collective) 2001, "Punk Ass Kid" 2003,"Nixmary- A Horror Story" 2006,"War Dreams" 2007 and “Family Living” 2009. In addition, she was the Co-Director of MIX NYC (2006-2009), the non-profit queer arts organization that annually presents The New York Queer Experimental Film Festival. She has been curating screenings of queer films internationally since 2001.
The gallery show is free, and there is a $4 suggested donation for the screening, but nobody will be turned away for lack of funds.
